Call be bias, but I love me a stay in the Yorkshire countryside! So when Gorgeous Cottages invited me along to spend two nights with the fabulous Millers Retreat I eagerly accepted. Millers Retreat is a quaint 3 bed-roomed cottage located on the edge of Bedale, North Yorkshire. This luxury cottage really is fully loaded, each double bedroom is extremely generous in size making it difficult to choose a ‘master’ bedroom as all rooms harbor equal beauty! Bedrooms are fully equip with their own en-suite inclusive of shower units and come with all the potions and products that a girl, or guy, could ask for.
Millers Retreat is designed as an upside down house. Bedrooms are the first rooms you reach upon entrance into the property. Located at the rear of the cottage are a set of stairs which decent into the open plan living/ dining area and cottage kitchen, access to the patio is achieved from here.
Arriving after hours on the Friday evening we were greeted by the cottage owners, Alison & Lionel, two sweet and wonderful hosts. Homemade bread was given to us on arrival which I later discovered the ingredients for which came from the working mill situated next door to the cottage, how novel?! Deciding it was a little late to cook we ventured out to explore the local area which resulted with us dining with The Greyhound Inn about a mile up the road.
We planned an early get up for Saturday and, after enjoying our homemade bread and jam for breakfast, headed off to explore the surrounding areas of Masham and Thorp Perrow. Thorp Perrow Arboretum was around a 15 minute drive from our cottage and offers something for all ages. The venue has a mammal and bird of prey center which has a wide assortment of animals inclusive of meerkats, wallabies and ostriches, allowing visitors to get right up close to them. The walled garden holds a magnificent collection of birds of prey, offering daily flying demonstrations from eagles, falcons, hawks, vultures and owls. There is also 100 acres of woodland walks, nature and adventure trails, a large lake, picnic and children’s (ahem) play area and some of the largest and rarest trees and shrubs in England.
After a full day exploring the local attractions we headed back to the cottage for a night of fun food and board games by the fire.
This really is such a beautiful property located in a fantastic corner of Yorkshire, the owners have gone all out to ensure guests have the best stay in their property and it is clear that the property has been renovated to the highest of standards. Perfect for couples, families and small groups this property comes with the highest of recommendations and I sincerely hope that you enjoy your stay just as much as I did.

Rebekah Esme was welcomed to Millers Retreat as a guest, however my opinion is as always my own.
