Roadtrip USA: The ultimate guide to tipping stateside

Tipping, for me, was one of the more difficult tasks to get my head around when travelling America, it’s compulsory to tip almost everyone over the pond. Being typically British, the art of tipping is somewhat more relaxed. If we enjoy our meal, we tip, if we don’t, we don’t, quiet simple.

How to avoid the embarrassment of under tipping.

As a general rule I tip almost everyone, although I still hold my British stances on my choice of percentage I leave. My tips are purely based on my experiences when travelling America, along with a little insider help.

Waiter/Waitress: Most bill’s outline the acceptable percentages to leave. 15% is the minimum tip to leave in a restaurant, this should only be left if poor service is experienced/ 18% is advised for general experience / 20% should be left for a very good experience. It’s important to show appreciation to your server so if you feel the meal & service were above your expectations you are free to leave upwards of 20%.

Roadtrip USA: Miami for first timers!

Miami, identified as Sin City of the East Coast, can be quiet a challenging city if you’re a ‘Miami  virgin’. A single walk down Ocean’s (Ocean Dr) will confirm all ‘front of house’ restaurants touting for your business to such an extent you may even question if you’ve been transported to Turkey. But no fear, once you happily decline the advances of the touts you can successfully enjoy the finer treats the city has to offer!

Shopping:

Miami shopping comes second only to NYC. Moving back a couple of block from Ocean’s opens out Lincoln & Collins Avenue. Here you’ll find almost any designer store you are searching for to the quaint vintage boutiques! My personal favourite stops are Victoria Secrets, where you can pick up some great Miami merchandise from PJ tops to Totes. Urban Outfitters, a great little stop for any knick-knack’s to take home for your friends! And Dash, the famous Kardashian boutique where you can get that compulsory Instagram snap! Although shopping in Miami is fun you really do need some disposable cash to hand.

Roadtrip USA: LA baby, how to do it right!

Welcome to LA BABY!

LA is a city like no other, flash car’s and designer labels consume the city. If your visiting CA, it really is one hotspot you won’t want to miss. So I’ve put together my top tips to do it right!

Everyone wants their first experience of LA to live up to their blockbuster expectations, a walk down the Hollywood walk of fame, your first sighting of the Hollywood sign, and a quick spree down Rodeo Drive in the world’s most famous zip code. Los Angeles is incredibly overwhelming at first as the attractions are spread across various neighbourhoods. My ultimate tip to ensure you do not miss any of these iconic landmarks is by buying a hop on hop off ticket for the Star line Tours Bus. Now, I know alot of avid travellers can snub these buses as they feel it does not give a true feel for a city, but I have to completely disagree with this theory. For a fee of around $58 for a 48 hour ticket you are able to get just about every destination you could possibly want to see in the city!
