Fashion; the dress, Kate Middleton

Kate Middleton shocked many a watcher today who had been betting on the royal wedding dress designer being close friend Victoria Beckham or fashion goddess Vivienne Westwood when they discovered the sensational garment was none other than Sarah Burton, designer for famous fashion label Alexander McQueen.
Burton’s garments have been a little more elegant than the eccentric pieces McQueen designed before his untimely death
last year and so articles have suggested Kate Middleton and Sarah Burton’s collaboration brought them to ‘draw inspiration from the dress worn by Grace Kelly in her marriage to Prince Rainier of Monaco, heavily focused on lace with a bodice beneath.’
It has been reported that the dress details a rose, thistle, daffodil and shamrock, representing each nation of the United Kingdom, with the lace of her dress embroidered by the Royal School of Needlework at Hampton Court Palace. Middleton’s exquisite train measures at 2m 70cm and, along with the dresses lace, all other fabrics were sourced and made in the UK.
